Short answers about floor screed: prices, depths, drying, choosing a screed, and who rings you. The guides go into detail, with sources.

Prices

How much does floor screeding cost per m² in Ireland?

None of the Irish screeding contractors' websites we checked on 29 October 2026 publishes a price per m². The price comes from your floor: the area, the depth, the type of screed, access for the pump and what's under it.

How much is a bag of floor screed?

McMahons lists Kilsaran KPRO Floor FLS 401 sand and cement screed at €11.90 ex VAT (€14.64 incl. VAT) per 25 kg and the polymer-modified FLS410 at €12.57 (VAT not stated).

How much is floor levelling compound?

Goodwins lists Larsen SLC 2000 at €34.99 per 25 kg incl. VAT, €31 for 16 or more bags. Home Value lists Bostik Cempolay Ultra at €34.95.

How much screed is in 100 m² at 50 mm?

5 m³, weighing 10.5–11 tonnes at 2,100–2,200 kg/m³. Our arithmetic.

Depths

How thick should floor screed be?

Sand and cement: 25 mm bonded, 50 mm unbonded, 65 mm floating in a house (MPA). Liquid screeds: from 35 mm floating (Gyvlon, Cemfloor) or 45 mm (Roadstone FlowPlus).

How much screed goes over underfloor heating pipes?

At least 25 mm of cover for Roadstone, Cemfloor and Gyvlon liquid screeds. Sand and cement: 65–75 mm total over heating (Designing Buildings Wiki).

What is the maximum depth for liquid screed?

Roadstone recommends no more than 80 mm for FlowPlus, because deeper screed takes longer to dry.

Drying

How long does screed take to dry?

About one day per mm for the first 50 mm of sand and cement (BS 8204-1), and one day per mm for the first 40 mm of liquid screeds, then slower (Roadstone, Gyvlon).

When can I walk on new screed?

Liquid screeds: 24–48 hours. Mapei Topcem: 12 hours. Sand and cement is cured under polythene for at least 5 days (MPA).

How dry does screed need to be for flooring?

75% relative humidity or below for most finishes (Ronacrete). Gyvlon gives 0.5% moisture for calcium sulphate; Roadstone about 2% by carbide for FlowPlus.

When can underfloor heating go on after screeding?

Gyvlon: from 7 days. Roadstone FlowPlus: from 14 days, at no more than 45°C. Mapei Topcem: after 4 days.

Choosing a screed

Is liquid screed better than sand and cement?

Each suits different floors. Liquid is thinner, faster and self-curing; sand and cement can be laid to falls and suits small jobs.

Does liquid screed need sanding?

Calcium sulphate screed does, then priming (Gyvlon). Cemfloor says its cement-based screed doesn't need sanding to remove laitance.

What is the difference between screed and concrete?

Concrete is structural, with larger aggregate. Screed is a levelling layer on the slab or on insulation.

What is limecrete?

A floor slab made with natural hydraulic lime on a bed of foamed glass or expanded clay, used in old solid-wall houses so moisture can move through the floor.

Does a new floor need a radon barrier?

In High Radon Areas, yes: a radon membrane has been required since 1 July 1998, and every building since then needs a standby sump (EPA).

Naming a manufacturer or merchant on this site doesn't mean they're involved in your job.

Does it cost anything to use this site?
