Screed planner

Plan your screed

Put in your floor and the day it's laid. You get the volume, the weight, when it should be dry enough for floor finishes, and when the heating can go on, from the makers' own figures.

Drying times are for good conditions, closed up and ventilated. The floor is tested before finishes go down, not guessed. None of the Irish screeding contractors' sites we checked publish a price per m², so the price comes from your floor.

Floor screed cost: the short answer

  • None of the Irish screeding contractors' websites we checked on 29 October 2026 publishes a price per m². The price comes from your floor: the area, the depth, the type of screed, access for the pump and what's under it.
  • Bagged sand and cement floor screed: €11.90 ex VAT, €14.64 incl. VAT, per 25 kg (Kilsaran FLS 401 at McMahons). Polymer-modified: €12.57.
  • Floor levelling compound: €31.00 to €34.99 per 25 kg incl. VAT (Larsen SLC 2000 at Goodwins), about €21.87 per m² of material at 10 mm.
  • Depth drives the material: every 10 mm across 100 m² is another cubic metre of screed.
  • Most per-m² screeding prices online are UK prices in sterling. We don't use them.

We checked the websites of Irish screeding contractors and suppliers on 29 October 2026. None publishes an installed price per m². Roadstone delivers floor screed to every county and prices it on request. What Irish merchants do publish is the price of bagged screed and levelling compound:

Bagged screed suits small rooms and repairs. A whole floor is batched on site or delivered from a plant, and that's what a screeding contractor prices.

How much screed a floor takes

Volume is area times depth. Weight follows from the density: Roadstone gives FlowPlus a dry density of about 2,100 kg/m³ and a wet density of about 2,200, and Cemfloor gives 2,100–2,200 kg/m³ fresh.

Depth, over 100 m²VolumeWeight at 2,100–2,200 kg/m³
35 mm3.5 m³7.4–7.7 t
50 mm5.0 m³10.5–11.0 t
65 mm6.5 m³13.7–14.3 t
75 mm7.5 m³15.8–16.5 t

Our arithmetic. Densities from the Roadstone FlowPlus brochure and the Cemfloor Complete data sheet, checked 29 October 2026.

Two things follow. First, 1 m² at 50 mm weighs 105–110 kg, so bagged screed for a whole floor runs to hundreds of bags. Second, the depth on the drawings matters: a floating sand and cement screed in a house is normally 65 mm (MPA), while Gyvlon and Cemfloor list 35 mm floating for their liquid screeds. Over 100 m², 30 mm less screed is 3 m³ less material and, at 1 mm a day or slower, at least 30 days less drying.

What decides the price

FactorWhy it matters
Floor areaMore floor, more material. Ask whether there's a minimum charge and how the rate changes with the area.
DepthMore depth, more material, and longer drying. See the volume table above.
Screed typeSand and cement, calcium sulphate, cement liquid, fast-drying and lime all use different materials and methods.
Underfloor heatingPipes have to be fixed and pressure tested before the screed; the screed needs joints between heating zones.
Insulation, membrane and edge stripSometimes in the screeding price, sometimes left to the builder. Check.
AccessHow far the pump line has to run, and whether a truck can get close.
Bays and jointsSmaller bays over heating mean more joints: 40 m² for Roadstone FlowPlus, 300 m² for Gyvlon.
ProgrammeA fast-drying binder changes the material and can save weeks before the floor finish.

What a screeding quote should list

  • The screed product by name, and its data sheet
  • Bonded, unbonded or floating, and the depth
  • The area, and whether it's measured from drawings or on site
  • Who supplies the insulation, polythene and edge strip
  • Fibres or mesh, if any
  • Bay layout and joints, especially over underfloor heating
  • When you can walk on it, and when the floor finish can go down
  • Whether a second visit is included if floors are poured on different days
  • VAT stated

Ways to spend less

  • Get the depth right on the drawings. Extra floor zone filled with screed costs material and drying time. Gyvlon recommends more insulation and the minimum screed where the zone is deep.
  • Have the site ready. Building closed in, insulation and polythene down, edge strip on, pipes clipped and pressure tested. A wasted visit costs someone.
  • Choose the drying route early. A thinner liquid screed or a fast-drying screed both bring the floor finish forward. Decide before the floor finisher is booked.

Where these figures come from

  • We read each source on 29 October 2026 and record only what it says, with the date.
  • Where a seller shows prices with and without VAT, we show both. Where VAT isn't stated, we say so.
  • Irish euro prices only. UK prices are never converted and shown as Irish.
  • Volumes and weights are our arithmetic, labelled as such.
  • We don't estimate installed prices. None was published, so none is shown.

Questions people ask

How much does floor screeding cost per m² in Ireland?

None of the Irish screeding contractors' websites we checked on 29 October 2026 publishes a price per m². The price comes from your floor: the area, the depth, the type of screed, access for the pump and what's under it.

How much is a bag of floor screed?

McMahons lists Kilsaran KPRO Floor FLS 401 sand and cement screed at €11.90 ex VAT (€14.64 incl. VAT) per 25 kg, and the polymer-modified FLS410 at €12.57 (VAT not stated), checked 29 October 2026.

How much screed do I need for 100 m²?

At 50 mm, 5 m³; at 65 mm, 6.5 m³; at 75 mm, 7.5 m³. At 2,100–2,200 kg/m³ that's 10.5–11 tonnes at 50 mm. Our arithmetic.

Is liquid screed dearer than sand and cement?

No Irish contractor publishes both prices. Liquid screed can go down thinner (35 mm floating against 65 mm for sand and cement in a house), which means less material and less drying time.

How much is floor levelling compound?

Goodwins lists Larsen SLC 2000 at €34.99 per 25 kg incl. VAT, dropping to €31 for 16 or more bags. At 1.6 m² per bag at 10 mm, that's about €21.87 per m² in material.
