Figures checked against each source on 29 October 2026. How we check

Louth is two big towns: Drogheda and Dundalk, each over 40,000 people at the 2022 census. Three in four new homes finished there in 2026 so far were scheme houses, which means a lot of ground floors over underfloor heating.

We pass requests from across County Louth to one screeding contractor who covers your county. They ring you, ask about the floor and price it. Nothing is booked until you say yes.

Plan a floor in Louth

Put in your floor and the day it's laid. You get the volume, the weight, when it should be dry enough for floor finishes, and when the heating can go on, from the makers' own figures.

Drying times are for good conditions, closed up and ventilated. The floor is tested before finishes go down, not guessed. None of the Irish screeding contractors' sites we checked publish a price per m², so the price comes from your floor.

What's being built

Louth finished 1,295 new homes in the first nine months of 2026, slightly more than Meath with about two-thirds of Meath's households: 988 scheme houses, 211 apartments and 96 one-off houses. Liquid screed suits estate work: it goes down quickly and thin over the heating pipes.

Older homes

Census 2022 counted 13,332 terraced houses in Louth and 3,511 homes built before 1919. In an older terraced house, levelling the old floor or a thin bonded screed may suit where there's little height to spare.

Radon under the floor

141 of the 1,397 Louth homes the EPA measured, about one in ten, were at or above the radon reference level. Check the EPA's map for the site before the floor design is fixed.

Questions people ask

Do you cover all of Louth?

Yes: Drogheda, Dundalk, Ardee, Dunleer, Clogherhead, Termonfeckin, Carlingford and the rest of the county.

How much does floor screeding cost in Louth?

None of the Irish screeding contractors' websites we checked on 29 October 2026 publishes a price per m². The price comes from your floor: the area, the depth, the type of screed, access for the pump and what's under it. See the cost guide for Irish merchant prices and what a quote should list.

Which screed suits a new house in Louth?

Over underfloor heating, a liquid screed needs 25 mm over the pipes (Roadstone, Gyvlon, Cemfloor); a floating sand and cement screed in a house is normally 65 mm (MPA). The contractor advises once they know the floor zone and your dates.
