Figures checked against each source on 29 October 2026. How we check
Wicklow had the highest radon reading of any Leinster county in the EPA's results, and 16% of homes measured were at or above the reference level. Under a new floor in a High Radon Area, the radon membrane and sump matter as much as the screed.
We pass requests from across County Wicklow to one screeding contractor who covers your county. They ring you, ask about the floor and price it. Nothing is booked until you say yes.
Screed planner
Plan a floor in Wicklow
Put in your floor and the day it's laid. You get the volume, the weight, when it should be dry enough for floor finishes, and when the heating can go on, from the makers' own figures.
Drying times are for good conditions, closed up and ventilated. The floor is tested before finishes go down, not guessed. None of the Irish screeding contractors' sites we checked publish a price per m², so the price comes from your floor.

Older homes
Census 2022 counted 5,183 Wicklow homes built before 1919, 10% of households, one of the higher shares in Leinster. In an older solid-wall house, a lime floor may be worth considering: see limecrete floors.

Radon under the floor
The EPA measured 2,683 Wicklow homes: 401 between 200 and 799 Bq/m³ and 34 above 800, with a county maximum of about 16,400 Bq/m³, the highest in Leinster. In High Radon Areas a radon membrane has been required since 1 July 1998, and the EPA says the quality of the installation is critical. The floor build-up has to keep that membrane whole.

Questions people ask
Does radon affect a new floor in Wicklow?
In High Radon Areas a radon membrane has been required under new buildings since 1 July 1998, and all buildings since then need a standby sump (EPA). The membrane goes under the floor build-up, so it's in place before the screed.
Do you cover all of Wicklow?
Yes: Bray, Greystones-Delgany, Arklow, Wicklow, Blessington, Kilcoole and Newtownmountkennedy, and everywhere in between.
How much does floor screeding cost in Wicklow?
None of the Irish screeding contractors' websites we checked on 29 October 2026 publishes a price per m². The price comes from your floor: the area, the depth, the type of screed, access for the pump and what's under it. See the cost guide for Irish merchant prices and what a quote should list.
Which screed suits a new house in Wicklow?
Over underfloor heating, a liquid screed needs 25 mm over the pipes (Roadstone, Gyvlon, Cemfloor); a floating sand and cement screed in a house is normally 65 mm (MPA). The contractor advises once they know the floor zone and your dates.
Who will ring me?
We pass your request to one screeding contractor who covers your county. Your number isn't sent to a list.
